COMPETITION COMMENCING AT EVE Tournament 5

Welcome to the EVE Home Page!!

<img:stuff/EVEShield.jpg>

Let's skip the small talk and get right down to how the game is played...

People willing to subject themselves to the torture of the arena sign up at The Hit List. There are 16 slots - filled on a first come first serve basis. When the 16 slots are full, the page is locked and so are the contestants.

The 16 combatants are randomly divided into two teams with the roll of a 20-sided die. Odd, you're on BLACK. Even, you're on WHITE. Order combatants roll is determined by thier position on the sign up list (The Hit List). For instance, if you signed up 6th, then you will get the sixth roll.

Once the teams have been decided, we then roll an 8-sided die to determine your slot. For instance, if you roll a 5, then you are in the fifth slot on the bracket. Whoever rolls a 6 is who you will combat against in the first round. Repeated numbers are rolled again.

Now that we know who competes against who in Round 1, we roll to find out what category you will compete with. Again, using a 20-sided die, as there are 20 categories (see Drawing Tournament Suggestions), the theme of your combat is totally random. Categories will be rolled the DAY battle begins. It is possible for two pairs of combatants to have the same category. It is also possible, but highly unlikely, for EVERYONE to roll the same category. It's all up to the dice!

Each Round will last SIX DAYS. The Tournament will last one month, with 4 Rounds. Anyone who does not submit their work after 6 days, will forfeit that round. EXCEPT for the Final Round - which will last a short, brutal FOUR DAYS and only be decided by combat. If one of the finalists should withdraw, or not complete their assignment, the next Runner up from their team will take their place. It is hoped that a new tournament will take place every 30 days.

Round 1 will focus on Pencils. Round 2 we move onto Inked pieces. Round 3 will be colored work. The 4th and Final Round will be WAR - anything goes - whatever medium you are most comfortable kicking your opponent's ass with (except photography and photomanipulation, of course).

In the Final Round, combatants will choose the category for their opponent! This will require a little strategizing on your part. KNOW YOUR ENEMY!

The Champion of each tournament will represent the best, total package, an artist can offer. We feel the diversity of categories and mediums will play to different strengths and weaknesses at various stages. And the randomness of the dice roll could make it anybody's game. We are not looking to play to any one person's strengths. The point is, if you do not know, to LEARN.

The Champion of a tournament is NOT allowed to enter the NEXT tournament. They must wait one month until the tournament following to allow someone new to dominate the playing field. They may, however, apply to be a judge at any time.

The judging will be done by a panel of anonymous, mature, impartial, prestigious, and very fair Elftowners. You may apply to be a judge through private message to [Evilmonk]. Include reason why you want to be a judge and what qualifies you to be a judge.

2006-07-15 [irulan]: Hmm, it's really hard to get fair judging here. Even if the pictures were posted without the names of the artists, styles are recognizable. ;/ One of the better things to do is make voting a combination of a general poll open to everyone and a panel of set judges that maybe you can rotate between battles? I love the idea of wagering - you could have folks post their bets until the last day of the battle, lock the wiki, run the voting for a set amount of time (maybe a week?) and then just award your tickets after that. You can keep a running total of who has what on a separate page. Whee, fun stuff! :D

2006-07-15 [Perplexity]: I dunno how you will be able to do the judging fairly if it is by public poll. Those things always end up being popularity contests. Well, most of the time anyway. And I kinda like the idea of wagering, but I dunno how that would work either. Who is providing the prizes? Us? =/

2006-07-15 [Perplexity]: Wagering things one could provide like art requests or small things that could be shipped cheaply like keychains, buttons, comic books, etc would be cool. And really, it's not about the prizes I guess, but the glory of defeating your opponent. lol

2006-07-15 [Perplexity]: I can help you with banners and badges!

2006-07-15 [Mom]: I think Art requests would be good...maybe we could have Artist join a pool that winners will win from. The artist will be picked by the roll of the dice that way the same artist doesn't get asked continually.

2006-07-15 [Perplexity]: There's a good idea!

2006-07-15 [Evilmonk]: As far as the wagering goes I was thinking of making it to where if you spread the word or plugged the sight or even participate you get a certain amount of 'currency' that can be used for wagering. I need a gambling den wiki and someone to keep track of the bets and money. I was thinking of having everyone who wanted to participate in someway donate art or just prizes. But if someone wanted to spend their tickets on a prize they would be responsible for sending the required postage to whomever will be sending the prize. It isn't that expensive and I don't believe that the donors should be stuck with the cost.

2006-07-15 [Evilmonk]: But you would get a certain amount of currency for making banners, putting the wiki name in your house or mood, participation would get you probably the most currency. I also need a rules of engagement page, and a good way to keep the judging fair. I know a lot of folks here who would claim to be fair but I am a little hesitant about having judges. I think we can come up with a better system if we really think on it for a bit.

2006-07-15 [Evilmonk]: And I am thinking of some cool secret badges that I would give to folks who win in the arena that say something like "I kicked Monks ass!!!" or something funny like that. =)

2006-07-15 [Elisha Kelly]: You'd basically have to appoint fair and impartial judges... :: as to secret badges hows about... I kicked monk's ass and all that came out was this lousy badge... XD

2006-07-16 [Evilmonk]: I like it!

2006-07-16 [Perplexity]: Worse things than a badge could have come out!!! =B

2006-07-16 [Mom]: wtmi.....XP

2006-07-16 [Steve*O]: Heh heh...nice =) Of course I'm just gonna sit back, plead the fifth and find out which side is funnier of the battles ^_^ but seriously I think it's a cool idea--definately a lot of favouritism here in E.T..

2006-07-18 [smakeupfx]: impartial judges? naw... never find any, I best do it ;-P

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: Actually I was gonna ask. If your not busy!

2006-07-18 [iippo]: How about a shout-fest as the judging? At the end of the fight, you get your group of trustworthy opinionated judging-people together, and they all argue (in a friendly and only slightly bloody way) about which one should win, and which art gets the most convincing argument backing it up, wins. Also both the artists will hear what people think of their piece, hear a little about how people see it, get ideas on how to improve possibly... Only set a few rules like no dissing the other entry, only praising and comparing ("this is best" and "this is better", not "this is bad"), both artists get to ask certain people to be the judges maybe (so both will have friends in there)... ?

2006-07-18 [TheRogue]: Rogue vs. Monk.. SHADDUP You.. You're just as good as any of us Monk. *Poke*

2006-07-18 [Evilmonk]: Well I have thought of that. I know [smakeupfx] would vote for the picture he thought was best exectued wether it was mine or not. He isn't caught up with the whole 'hurting peoples feelings' complex, when it comes to that. I think he would be a fair judge, but I am still trying to find a more solid way of judging. It would be ideal if there weren't any relations in the judging. Like my wife, that would not be very fair, she would judge true, but if it came down to her liking both pieces greatly, well guess who she would vote for. Thats rhetorical. Thats the situation I wish to avoid. I want the art to be judged for just that, the art and relation should have nothing to do with it.
